Just so you know where your money goes when you shop for groceries I have compiled the following list:

Bicycling Chucktown
OMG, could we live in a less bicycle friendly city? With our temperate climate and virtually flat geography, we should be doing everything we can to make ourselves into the preeminent bicycling city in the Southeast.
Handheld fire balls
Cool beans.
Incinerator bye bye
Charleston County Council is getting rid of our incinerator. I guess they ran the numbers and a few hundred more pounds of mercury released into our atmosphere will be okay until it shuts down at the end of ‘09.
What I enjoyed in the article is how Mt. Pleasant is hiring a consultant to gauge the impact of their trucks having to drive further to dump the trash. It seems like a pretty simple study to do(labor time lost to additional drive time, additional fuel additional wear and tear on vehicles), but perhaps beyond the scope of their city administrator, Mac Burdette. I personally don’t live in Mount Pleasant, but if I did I would like to see the city administrator do his job in this respect, instead of paying valuable city dollars to a consultant for a very simple study.
Local movie houses
I am sick and tired of having to complain every single time I go to the movies in our town. Either the sound level is not correct or the projector bulb is too dim or the projection is not aligned with the screen or the focus is off. I can’t see a picture anywhere where the registration is correct(causing a slight shake in the image).
I’m asking local movie reviewers to please include a review of the venue they saw the picture in to help raise the overall standards of movie projection in our city.
At this point I refuse to see pictures at the Citadel Mall AMC because the quality is so bad and the management does not seem to care.
Charleston County Library
Todays Post & Courier congratulates Georgetown on their national library award. Well, good for them, but as an ardent user of our own Charleston County Library system I have to say that we certainly do not deserve any awards. The stacks are filled with garbage when with the funding we have and for as long as we have had a public library system, there is no reason why we shouldn’t have a world class book collection by now.
I challenge the librarians themselves to ensure that the stacks in all our branches are filled with world class literature and only the best in nonfiction titles. I think we can start by losing the vast collection of outdated travel books, eh?
